Deaf, disabled and/or neurodivergent performer will be showcasing their talent in Stratford East’s SLAMbition, in association with Ramps on the Moon.

SLAMbition is a brand new monologue slam-style competition putting a spotlight on the incredible range of Deaf, disabled and neurodivergent talent that exists in the arts. It’s an opportunity for artists to perform two monologues in front of an invited audience of leading industry creatives including directors, casting agents and casting directors. Not only is this an opportunity to showcase your talent, you'll also receive one-on-one rehearsal time with a director and there'll be plenty of networking opportunities - plus, there'll also be an exciting package of prizes for our winner (prizes tbc soon).

The evening will be hosted by Tabby Lamb and will also feature guest appearances and networking opportunities for participating artists.

SLAMbition is open to Deaf, disabled and neurodivergent artists over the age of 18 from any and all backgrounds. We are particularly keen to receive applications from emerging artists, those without agency representation, LGBTQ+ and global majority artists. Stratford East is the Ramps on the Moon partner for London & South East, and as such, priority will be given to applicants from these areas.

For artists who are shielding or unable to attend events in person, we still encourage you to apply. Please let us know your access requirements when applying so we can look into making suitable arrangements.

Ramps on the Moon is a collaborative network of six National Portfolio Organisation theatres: New Wolsey, Ipswich, Birmingham Rep, Nottingham Playhouse, Leeds Playhouse, Sheffield Theatres, Stratford East and strategic partner Graeae. Ramps on the Moon exists to enrich the stories we tell and the way we tell them by normalising the presence of deaf and disabled people both on and off stage.

HOW IT WORKS

APPLICATIONS HAVE NOW CLOSED. Thank you to everyone who submitted an application to take part in SLAMbition. We are now looking through all the entries and will be in touch with all applicants very shortly.

WHAT HAPPENS NEXT?
Our panel will review the submissions and invite 20 artists to an audition. All applicants will hear back from us after the application deadline.

Auditions will take place in February at Stratford East or online for anyone unable to attend in person (travel bursaries are available). Artists will be asked to prepare a monologue to perform at the audition. You will need to perform a monologue that is different from the one submitted in your application video. The audition panel will consist of casting agents and directors (as well as any support works/specialists required). All auditionees will receive feedback from our panel. 10 artists will then be selected to compete at SLAMbition.

In March, successful participants will work with a director to develop and hone their monologues during a paid rehearsal period (exact timings tbc and worked out with participants).

Wed 30 Mar 2022 – SLAMbition performance, hosted by Tabby Lamb. Each artist will perform two monologues for an invited audience and guest panel of judges who'll decide the winner. There will also be networking opportunities for all artists.
