Legacy gifts play an important part in securing our long-term future; every donation helps, and no amount is too small. 

How to leave a gift in your will 

As Stratford East is a registered charity, your legacy gift will be exempt from Inheritance Tax. If you choose to leave 10% of your estate to charity, you can qualify for a reduced Inheritance Tax rate on the rest of your estate, down from 40% of taxable wealth to 36%.

You can include Stratford East in your will by directing your gift to Pioneer Theatres Ltd, registered charity number 233801.  

There are two main types of gifts you can leave. A pecuniary gift (specific amount of money) or a residuary gift (either a percentage or the remaining amount once all the other gifts and expenses have been arranged). 

If you already have a will, you can make an addition to it with a Codicil. This is very simple and can be arranged through your professional advisor.  

Suggested wording 

The following wordings may be useful to your professional advisor. 

A residuary gift (either a percentage or the remaining amount once all the other gifts and expenses have been arranged) 

 ‘I give all/a share of (please state fraction/percentage) the residue of our estate to Pioneer Theatres Ltd t/a Stratford East, Gerry Raffles Square, London, E15 1BN, Registered Charity Number 233801, to be applied for the general purposes of the Stratford East, and I direct that the receipt of a proper officer for the time being of Stratford East shall be a complete discharge to our Executors.’ 

A pecuniary gift (specific amount of money) 

‘I give to Pioneer Theatres Ltd  t/a Stratford East, Gerry Raffles Square, London, E15 1BN, Registered Charity Number 233801 to be applied for the general purposes of Stratford East, the sum of [amount in figures, amount in words] and I direct that the receipt of a proper officer for the time being of Stratford East shall be a complete discharge to our Executors.’
