East London’s cultural landscape gains a significant boost as STRATFORD EAST secures £1,700,000 from the Creative Foundations Fund (CFF). This critical investment allows for essential capital works to take place, ensuring our Victorian Grade II listed building remains a safe, vibrant and sustainable home for the arts in East London.
The grant forms part of a broader £26.8 million allocation across the city. This massive injection of capital addresses urgent infrastructure needs that threaten historic venues. For STRATFORD EAST, the funds will specifically protect the building's historic architecture. Maintenance teams will focus on replacing failing sections of the roof above the main auditorium to prevent weather damage and preserve the interior. Additionally, the project includes a much-needed update to the air-filtration system. This improvement will enhance the comfort and safety of every visitor who walks through the doors.
Modernising technical systems and repairing the structural fabric of the theatre does more than just fix old pipes or tiles. These actions guarantee that the space stays open and functional for everyone. By investing behind the scenes, we can safeguard our ability to entertain for years to come and support the next generation through our Learning and Participation programmes.
