Freelance Royalty Residencies

Freelance Royalty Residencies

Are you working on a project and in need of support or guidance? Apply for a Stratford East Residency! This is a week-long residency where you'll have use of our rehearsal room to work on your project and we'll provide additional support where/if needed. Residencies are ideally suited to smaller-scale projects that are already in development.

Check back for more information about our upcoming Residencies for 2024.
What does support look like?
- You will be paid for your time during the residency.
- You will have use of our Dillon Rehearsal Room for the week (days usually run 10am-5pm).
- We can offer financial support for up to two or three additional team members based on the support you need. For example, you may have written a new play and would like support from a director and a dramaturg. We will work with you to find a suitable artists and pay them for their time.
- This residency is more suited to artists looking to work with two to three artists/specialists in a consultancy capacity (eg. working with a dramaturg, designer or choreographer for three days).

- You must be a Freelance Royalty Scheme Member
- You must be a current resident of Newham, Tower Hamlets, Hackney, Waltham Forest, Redbridge, Barking & Dagenham or Greenwich.
- Artists of all disciplines are welcome to apply (ie: writers, directors, actors, dancers, designers, musicians etc.)

Application Process
Whilst we may not be able to provide support with everything on your list, we would look to have an open conversation with you about what support we can feasibly offer. As such, in your application, please tell us what specific support you would like and what support is a priority for you.

We are not looking for extensive answers and have tried to keep the application form as short as possible so Members do not spend lots of time on it.

Please note that the residency is not a commission from Stratford East and is not a commitment to future support or development for your project. The purpose of the residency is for us to provide a space for you to develop your project. Your application will be read by our team and selection will be based on what is feasible and realistic to deliver to ensure you get the most out of the residency. The theme/topic/content of your project will not factor into our selection process, nor will your level of experience. This ensures we can keep Residencies as open to all Royalty Members as possible.

(If you're in need of rehearsal space only, then perhaps our Space Lottery is more suited to you.

If we have any questions about your application or require more information we will contact you. If you have any questions about Residencies or the Freelance Royalty Scheme then please email us:
