RIP Doreen Warburton OBE

It is with great sadness that we have learnt of the death in of Doreen Warburton OBE, who was a member of Theatre Workshop in the formative years in Kendall. Doreen had been based in Sydney for a long time, where she founded the Q Theatre in 1963. An ensemble company formed along the principles of the early days of Theatre Workshop, the Q performed on building sites, in factories, shopping centres and other assorted spaces. It was the first company to perform at the Sydney Opera House - to 500 construction workers! The Q eventually became a permanent theatre company in Penrith western Sydney. Doreen said  "…it was very important that we all live there, because I didn't want to have a city theatre going out to Penrith and saying, 'Aren't we clever, we're from the city,"' She said.  "I wanted to be part of that community and to live there with that community."
