SUMMER COLLEGE 2018

Open to anyone aged 12 – 24 years old, our SUMMER COLLEGE is your number one destination for all things theatre this summer. For the creative and curious, there is something for everyone -  for all stages of experience and ambition. Come and get involved!

Please note: you can book onto our activities the day, however only if there is space. To avoid disappointment, book early and secure your place!

MASTERCLASSES Mon 23 - Sat 28 Jul
Classes in acting, audition technique, songwriting, improvisation by professionals working in theatre. Book as many as you want! (Masterclasses start at £5 each). Take a look at our full list of Masterclasses below.

TAKEOVER Tue 31 Jul – Fri 3 Aug (ages 13+)

Rehearse your own ideas and perform them on stage in a Scratch event to an audience. Mentors available to guide you and develop your ideas.
£30 for the whole takeover experience.

CREATIVE RESIDENCY with Newham Music and Theatre Royal Stratford East Mon 6 – Wed 15 August (ages 16+)
Daily 10am-5pm

Working with professional directors, musicians and choreographers, spend 9 days devising to create a new original play with music, song, and movement. We will provide the professionals; you provide the ideas, passion and skills. Perform on the last day to a live audience. No experience needed. 
£50 for the residency, which includes a theatre trip.

11am-1pm Meet & Greet (ages 13+) 
Come down meet the team and ask any questions about Summer College, and join our Green Room Club. The club is a place to hang out, meet new friends and future collaborators.

2pm-4pm Theatre Games (ages 13-15) - £5
Theatre Games are a tool that actors use to be stronger and more confident; come and play. With Young People’s Coordinator Darnell Shakespeare.

2pm-4pm Playwright’s Toolkit (ages 16+) - £5
Join writer and director Luke Barnes to explore how you can turn your ideas into plays for stage and screen.

TUE 24 JUL

11am-1pm Monologue Masterclass (aged 13-16) - £5
Join our Young People’s Work Coordinator Darnell Shakespeare to perfect your monologue performance.

2pm-4pm Turning Ideas Into Performance (ages 17+) - £5
Work with award-winning actress and creator of On the Edge of Me and Quarter Life Crisis, Yolanda Mercy and learn how to use your experiences to make theatre work.

Join our Young People’s Work Coordinator Darnell Shakespeare to perfect your monologue performance.

6pm-9pm Get The Most Out Of Your Performance (age 17+) - £5
Acting masterclass with Guildhall School of Music and Drama. 

WED 25 JUL

11am-4pm Telling Stories Through Movement (ages 15+) - £10
Working with dancer and choreographer Waddah Sinada and Rhys Dennis of FUBU Dance, learn to tell stories through movement. No experience required.

11am-4pm Words and Beats with Paul Cree (ages 15+) - £10
Learn to beatbox and create spoken word on a loop pedal with Spoken Word Artist Paul Cree. No experience needed.

6pm-9pm Get The Most Out Of Your Performance (age 17+) - £5
Acting masterclass with Guildhall School of Music and Drama.

THU 26 JUL

11am-4pm Directing and Acting Masterclass with Roy Alexander Weise (ages 17+) - £10
Learn how to get the most out of your work with award-winning Director of The Mountaintop and Nine Night, Roy Alexander Weise.

11am-1pm Improvising Characters (ages 13-15) - £5
Have fun learning how to create stories and characters through improv with our Head of Young People’s Work Jan Sharkey-Dodds.

FRI 27 JUL

11-4pm Introduction to Songwriting Day 1 (ages 15+) - £10
Learn how to create and perform songs that tell stories with songwriter and multi instrumentalist Matthew Maurice of Newham Music. No experience needed.

6pm-8pm So You Want to Be and Actor? (ages 17+) - £5
Join awarding-winning actor Suzann McLean for a practical workshop giving a real insight into the industry.

SAT 28 JUL 

11-4pm Introduction to Songwriting Day 2 (ages 15+) - £10
