We are delighted to announce our exciting plans to build a new 220-seat theatre called The Red Crate, immediately opposite us in Theatre Square.
The new eco-venue will be a sister building to the National Theatre’s temporary theatre, designed by award-winning architects Haworth Tompkins and will adjoin Gerry's. The new venue is still being built and will be in place for an intended period of 10 years.
The Red Crate will mean that we will be able to nearly double the number of performances we have for you each year. Rather than being secondary to our existing stage, it will offer us the chance to work with more artists and make more shows. And because the seats in The Red Crate are on three sides, many of the shows will be different to those suited to our beautiful Victorian auditorium.
The public consultation about our plans for The Red Crate closed on the 12 Dec.
